About The Podcast

A Letter From the Host.

Growing up Catholic, I was always enamored by the mystique, the drama and the mysticism. Walking into the church and seeing a bloody crucifix, saints holding weapons, and the overall piety and richness of ritual - with bells, incense and music.

However, as I grew older, I wanted to know more about this side of the church - but I was told to more so focus on going to mass and taking the sacraments. Not to get caught up in the mystical.

I was taught a very open, social justice, progressive form of Catholicism - so it wasn’t bigotry that turned me off (back then, at least), but it was the lack of fire, magic, and mysticism that I knew was there, but couldn’t find.

Of course, this led me away from the church - and into more esoteric spirituality such as Buddhism, Hinduism and more. These practices taught me the importance of a personal practice, as well as the importance of union with God.

Years later, after a variety of spiritual experiences, I felt called to pray the rosary, and later pray a novena to a saint.

These sessions were so powerful and moving - and they made me want to research more traditional but also cultural ways Catholics unite with God around the world.

That’s why I started St. Anthony’s Tongue. To discuss traditions around Saints, Psalms, practices and more.

However, in doing this research, I’ve also found a very magical, open, and mystical form of Catholicism that many aren’t taught - but very much exists, even in the most traditional of church documents and writings of the fathers.

How the New Agers or “New Witches” - do manifestation rituals, well that can also be done with a novena to a saint as well.

Or how spiritualists will do protection spells - well the church has a rich history of prayers for deliverance, protection, even reversing black magic.

On the spiritual front, how eastern spiritualists love Japa or Mantra Meditation, well the Eastern Catholics monks have that too, in the practice of Hesychasm.
How the gifts of the Holy Spirit include what you might call “psychic powers” and of course, the incredibly mystical properties of the Holy Eucharist.

This isn’t necessarily a series of lectures, but instead, it’s me sharing my personal research and journey - so we can walk this path together. Enjoy these episodes on the saints, psalms, rituals, demons, angels and more.
